NEWS
I've back at it again. Been locking myself up in my
little makeshift recording studio in the middle of the night, just me, my
guitar, my harp and my banged-up ol' Powerbook w/Protools
battling the increasingly colder Calif winter, various street
noise interruptions and strange old house creaks and groans, working to get
these latest tunes done and down and ready for whatever the next album will
be.
As you have to know by now, I LOVE songwriting and I LOVE recording, just
about more than love itself. It comes naturally and easily and I feel more
comfortable spending hours and hours in a dark studio setting somewhere, cranking
stuff out, more than I ever do in a car, on the streets, in a bed or even
onstage.
If I was smart, I'd rob a bank, put all the money into buying a shack in the
middle of nowhere somewhere and living in my own little songwriter's paradise.
Good thing I'm not that smart.

Word
out on the wire is that my wife Allyson and I are going to
finally start our own little record label. She doesn't know it yet (she's
not big on Myspace) but we're calling it Truly Shambolic.
I don't know why. I dont even know where I found the word 'shambolic' but
I like it and I think it's about a good a name as any for a tiny independent
record label. There are no absolute plans quite yet but I can tell you that
we'll be releasing a slew of 7 inches and homemade CD projects right away
in '09.
Oh, speaking of 7 inches, I have asked or have been asked by several of my
favorite singer-songwriter buddies to collaborate on some 7 inch splits in
the new year and I'm very very excited about this. I have no timeframe to
report right now but expect splits between me and Jesse Michaels
(Operation Ivy/Common Rider), Mike Hale (Gunmoll/In The Red),
Mike Scott (Phineas Gage), Flav Giorgini
(Squirtgun), Kepi Ghoulie (Groovie Ghoulies/Kepi The Band)
and probably a couple more.
How fun is that?
